About 10 years ago, shortly after my step-father died, I had a number of strange experiences that I could not explain. I am not sure if they related to my late step-father or some other paranormal experience or maybe even something that could have a plausible explanation. First, my television would change channels by itself, turn on and off by itself and change the volume level. The television did not have remote control.
My living room lamp would go on and off by itself. It happened whether I was alone or had company. I began to get used to it and later when I moved away the television and lamp worked just fine. The scariest thing that happened during the time I was having trouble with the television and lamp was one night, about 2:00 am, while I was sleeping I heard a sound like glass cracking.
Something like you would hear if you put ice into a glass full of hot water and the glass cracked. This sound by itself was not enough to fully wake me but a sudden explosion-type sound did awaken me. I thought at first that someone had broken a window to get into my bedroom. The sound definitely came from the room where I was sleeping. I jumped up, checked the window and then the rest of the windows and doors in my condo and they were all closed and locked. No broken glass in the windows. So, then I thought possibly someone shot a gun into my house.
I looked everywhere except the bedroom where I had been sleeping and found no bullet holes and nothing disturbed. I finally gathered the courage to go back into my bedroom and turned on the light. I saw pieces of ceramic all over the room like something ceramic had been thrown or had exploded. When I looked at the lamp I had just turned on, it looked shorter. In fact it was shorter and the shade had fallen almost to the table and around the lamp. The light bulb still worked, but when I lifted up the shade I discovered the ceramic base of the lamp had exploded and was gone.
There were no burnt wires, nothing from the outside of the lamp could have caused the explosion and nothing apparent from what was left on the inside of the lamp to cause an explosion. The ceramic portion of the lamp just exploded by itself! I became very scared and called a friend of mine who worked at a ceramics factory thinking he may have an explanation for what had happened.
I was so scared that all I could say was "It just exploded! " "The lamp just exploded!" He came over to take a look and promised to ask some people at work how it could have happened. No one could give an answer except that possibly heat and then cooling when the air conditioner came on. A number of strange things happened there afterwards and my life there was miserable.
A few years later I moved out. My television and lamp worked fine after I moved and I had no other strange occurrences. Do you have any ideas of what this could have been? Could it have been a ghost? I have not told many people about this experience but I know it puzzled people who witnessed these happenings. I would appreciate any ideas you may have.
