Stories - Haunted Church

I don't usually buy into all this, but my father told me this story and, since he doesn't buy into any of it either, I figure there must be some little bit of truth behind it. My parents worked as ministers in the Salvation Army for 20 years before they retired in 1997. As ministers, they moved from church to church and city to city quite frequently. At one time before I was born, my parents were living and ministering in Grand Junction, Colorado. At that time, the church building was an old funeral home.

One night, when the senior minister was working late in the offices of the church, he heard someone walking around in the lobby. He knew that no one should have been there, because he had already locked up for the night. When he went to investigate, he found no one in the lobby. He heard, instead, someone moving around in the chapel. When he entered the chapel, he again found no one. Thinking that it might be a child playing around, he looked under the pews. He saw feet, as though a man were sitting in one of the pews, but when he looked over the top, there was no one in the chapel.

My father says that the minister gathered his things from the office and left without investigating further. The Salvation Army has sold that building and moved to a new location since that time. As I said, I don't usually buy into stories about haunted places, but I know that there are things that can't really be explained by any 'normal' or 'conventional' means. Anyhow, I hope you find this story as fascinating as I do.
