A Buckingham shopkeeper rang the Advertiser in excitement after a ghostly face appeared in her shop counter.
Natalie Afriat, of Winstons jewellers, on Market Hill, called the paper after staff spotted the apparition, apparently of a young woman of Eastern appearance.
Mrs Afriat said: "We had some customers in this morning, then after they went I said: 'Oh my God, girls, have you seen this?'"
She said normally a handprint on the black wood counter would disappear after someone took their hand away, but this image had been there for at least an hour when Advertiser photographer Jake McNulty snapped it.
The shop is in a 300-year-old listed building on Market Hill.
Mrs Afriat said: "All the ...

For $100 per night per person, you too can now check out the haunts at the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Well, we have been working on this project for some time -- mostly planning and wishing we had time to work on it, but it's finally up and running. Thanks a lot to those who helped us test and work out the first few issues. I hope this is the beginning of a long term relationship and the realization of the goal of organizing all paranormal information possible. ...

This old city, some say, is locked in an eternal wrestling match with itself. Is this the historic seaport of art and culture, or the "Witch City" of psychics and ghost tours?
The Park and Recreation Commission ventured into that quicksand this week when it denied a request by a group of paranormal investigators from Rhode Island to search for ghosts in the Witch House, the former home of Jonathan Corwin, an infamous judge during the Witch Trials of 1692.
In essence, a majority of the board — only three of the five members were present — said it would be in bad taste to allow ghost hunters to go inside an historic, 17th-century house that is tied to such an important ...

Closed-circuit security cameras at Hampton Court Palace, the huge Tudor castle outside London, seem to have snagged an ethereal visitor. Could it be a ghost?
"We're baffled too -- it's not a joke, we haven't manufactured it," said Vikki Wood, a Hampton Court spokeswoman, when asked if the photo the palace released was a Christmas hoax. "We genuinely don't know who it is or what it is." ...

John Quinn of McDonough believes his mobile home is haunted.
But he doesn't just tell one or two anecdotes to try and convince skeptics. He's got an entire journal of "supernatural activity" dating back to April 11.
"Clanking chains and grandfather clock ticking real loud. Little girl made very wicked laugh in office all in daylight hours," says an entry dated July 4.
"2:30 a.m. Bed shook and levitated," reads one from July 11. "Shadow ran to front office bedroom," says Aug. 19's entry.
Such occurrences, along with mysterious flashing lights, disembodied voices and unexplained movements of objects are fairly constant in the 445 Robin ...

Journeying to historic hotels to encounter the guests that never check out is a pastime of many travelers, particularly at Halloween. According to many recorded events, the ghost of the young woman found shot on the beach steps of the Hotel del Coronado in November of 1892 still inhabits that Victorian landmark propert making this a favorite year-round destination for fans of the spirit world.
Why? Because the ghost of the Hotel del Coronado holds a special fascination for many. It may be that her story –a young, possibly pregnant woman traveling alone strikes a chord. Her story is heartbreaking. It may be that her life, and death, remains very much a mystery. ...

A ghost-busting psychologist hopes to create his own 'haunted house' where spooky phenomena can be summoned at the flick of a switch.
Dr Richard Wiseman believes ghostly experiences can be explained by a combination of fear, and effects such as electromagnetic fields, temperature changes and low rumblings.
He plans to put his theory to the test by having control over a spooky environment.
Dr Wiseman, from the University of Hertfordshire, told New Scientist magazine: "We want to build our own haunted house, so we are totally in control.
"It would give really important scientific results, produce a huge amount of publicity, and go down in history."
Dr Wiseman beli ...

The chill of autumn has arrived, and it’s time to make your home cozy and snug. Replace those broken shingles, seal the window frames, start the water boiling and throw in some scented nutmegy things, or a rabbit if you’ve been disappointed in love. But what to do about that ghost that has been making such a racket, scaring the guests and making it impossible to sleep? Sure, you can kid yourself that it’s a squirrel on the roof or a rattling pipe or a fog that comes up from time to time. (On Narragansett Bay? Sure, pal, that’s credible.) But eventually, when guests and family members become truly frightened, something must be done. ...
