| This old city, some say, is locked in an eternal wrestling match with itself. Is this the historic seaport of art and culture, or the "Witch City" of psychics and ghost tours? The Park and Recreation Commission ventured into that quicksand this week when it denied a request by a group of paranormal investigators from Rhode Island to search for ghosts in the Witch House, the former home of Jonathan Corwin, an infamous judge during the Witch Trials of 1692. In essence, a majority of the board — only three of the five members were present — said it would be in bad taste to allow ghost hunters to go inside an historic, 17th-century house that is tied to such an important and tragic event. "We have to have respect for the gravity of the injustice that occurred in 1692," member Chris Burke said. | Journeying to historic hotels to encounter the guests that never check out is a pastime of many travelers, particularly at Halloween. According to many recorded events, the ghost of the young woman found shot on the beach steps of the Hotel del Coronado in November of 1892 still inhabits that Victorian landmark propert making this a favorite year-round destination for fans of the spirit world. | The ghostly apparition of a girl is being blamed for a series of crashes on a stretch of country road. Spooky sightings of a girl aged about five, in Victorian dress, on a road in the West Midlands are now being investigated by paranormal researchers. What does this mean to the paranormal community? First, the increased interest in the paranormal phenomenon has many amateur investigators grabbing their cameras and recorders seeking to find the unknown. | Well, we have been working on this project for some time -- mostly planning and wishing we had time to work on it, but it's finally up and running. Thanks a lot to those who helped us test and work out the first few issues. I hope this is the beginning of a long term relationship and the realization of the goal of organizing all paranormal information possible. .. . | |||||||||||

| I have a student who believes that Jeff Porcaro, the late drummer of the band Toto, is haunting her house. She states this as absolute fact, as if it isn't even a remote possibility that the ghost is John Bonham or Keith Moon. It is Jeff Porcaro and that is that. "Did you know him?" I asked. We were sitting at a campus eatery dining on bagels and drinking coffee just like normal people might do, except that one of us was having a Poltergeist experience of the prog-rock variety. "I'd never even heard of him before we met on the Ouija board," my student said. "I've found subsequently that I don't really care for his music." By day, my student is a corporate concierge, which means she spends most of her sun-lit hours doing soul-scorching tasks such as arranging hotel rooms for visiting mistresses, procuring tickets to Carrot Top shows and generally acting the role of in-house bitch for the corporations that use her services. | A COUNTRY gent, his collie dog and a young girl with breathing problems - the sort of occupants you might expect to find in any typical Hampshire cottage. But these uninvited guests are enough to send a shiver down your spine. They are ghosts that have been spotted in a converted cottage in the New Forest. Myrtle Cottage, opposite The Green at Old Milton, has every appearance of a des res. But tenants of the upstairs flat, Liz Kenchington and Matthew Cornwall, have noticed some strange phenomena, and downstairs in the Rayment & Butler estate agency there are apparently other visitors. A spectral collie dog sits under a particular chair in the office, and at the other end of the room the figure of a man has been seen seated in another chair.
